Performance Bikes April 2016

Welcome to the April issue of PB. This issue is a celebration of excess – in particular the Kawasaki H2R.

Launched a year ago, the H2 and the mega-power, track-only H2R were introduced on a wave of hype, the likes of which we’ve not seen for a very long time. And in many ways rightly so – these were bikes that were truly innovative and hugely exciting. But actually gauging the H2R’s performance has been hard.

It says something about the expectation surrounding it that when we first thrashed one up a runway we were disappointed it ‘only’ did 206mph and ‘only’ made 250bhp at the business end of its Bridgestone slick. But now we’re the first magazine to test it back-to-back on a track, and the results are truly impressive.

On equal tyres and with Michael Rutter on board, the H2R is seriously fast – within a second of a Ducati Panigale 1299 on lap time, and more than 20mph faster on the straight! It’s an unbelievable performance from the carbon-clad monster.

Enjoy the mag…
Matt Wildee, editor.
